Plowing and Seedling Project in the Tihama Plain, Phase 2, 2023
In light of the challenging events and circumstances that Yemen has experienced in recent years, government interest in the agricultural sector has multiplied, and community awareness of the importance of this vital and influential sector in the national economy has been strengthened. Several projects have been implemented to directly contribute to ensuring the necessary food supply for the community and addressing the problems faced by farmers, particularly their lack of resources for cultivating their lands.
In this context, Namaa Small and Microfinance Foundation Financing previously implemented plowing and Seedling Project in the Tihama Plain. In the year 2023, over a six-month period from June to December, NAMAA Foundation decided to implement the project for its second season. It contracted with 20 tillage machines to carry out plowing for the farmers, and coordinated with the Farmers' Association in the targeted directorates to identify the participating farmers and monitor the progress of the work from implementation until the project's completion. The Foundation ensured the provision of diesel fuel for the tillage machines at an official price, even in the event of any emergency crisis.
The project aimed to plow 2,149 hectares of land, benefiting 200 farms through the execution of 10,000 hours of tillage work. The targeted directorates included Al Zaydiyah, Addahi, Almunirah, Alqanawis, Almighlaf, Alzuharh, Alluhayah, Bajil, and Almarawi'ah.
Throughout the project, the Namaa Foundation seeks to achieve self-sufficiency by supporting grain, vegetable, and fruit farmers. It aims to address the issue of farmers' lack of tillage costs. The project aims to produce 40,000 bags of various grains and increase the farmers' profits.
Moreover, the Namaa Foundation aims to expand the project's implementation to most directorates of the province.
